WHAT WE DO
Campaign on a wide variety of disability issues.
Run and manage the Hull and East Riding Centre for Independent Living (CIL), providing information, advice and a range of services for disabled people, their families and service providers.
Provide consultancy and advice to other organisations in the voluntary, statutory and private sector, both locally and nationally.
Provide a regular newsletter "Loud and Proud", as well as a wide range of information and resource packs.
Organise conferences, workshops and forums so that disabled people can be informed of new developments and have an opportunity to voice opinions face to face.
Regularly feature in the media as a voice for disabled people.
Key Services
Independent Living Scheme providing support to people who receive Personalised Budgets and Direct Payments in lieu of Care Services from the Local Authority. (This service only operates within the Hull Boundary).
Personal Assistant database - Promoting independent living - visit our new on-line PA database at http://www.hull-pas.org.uk/ to register as a PA, search for a PA, download fact sheets or join our on-line forum.
Disability Information Service providing advice and support on a wide range of issues affecting disabled people including signposting, fact sheets, case work, covering everything from accessible holidays to human rights issues.
Access Direct - A national database of communication support workers. This includes sign language interpreters, lip speakers and Palantypists. The service makes no charge for sourcing and booking an interpreter or communication support worker, but the worker's costs have to be paid by the service provider.
Disability Discrimination Advice - Advising both individuals and service providers on their rights and responsibilities under the current legislation.
Disability Housing Service, provided in partnership with Habinteg Housing Association, advising on a wide range of housing issues including accessible homes, aids and adaptations housing rights.
